Specialist Dyslexia Tuition
Specialist tuition for those who struggle with literacy skills supports all children including those who are dyslexic and those who may not be. Every learner is unique and different and therefore a tailored program to suit their needs, within a safe environment, where mistakes are valued and growth mindset is key, are vital for a child to make progress.
Teaching is structured, cumulative and multi-sensory and moves at the learner's pace along while boosting self-confidence and independent learning. When students realise that it's all about their own journey and no-one else's, their confidence increases.
Each session incorporates key principles that are essential for learners with literacy difficulties/dyslexia. Rosenshine's Principles by Tom Sherrington are included where ever possible.
-
regular review and practice - to transfer teachings into the long-term memory through cumulative learning that constantly revisits previously covered concepts.
-
questioning - check for a child's understanding by asking process questions - find out how much they understand.
-
sequence concepts - learning built upon in logical small steps where scaffolding is given for difficult tasks.
-
modelling - the teacher provides models of the learning so that the student can see the thought process and the worked-example effect reduces cognitive load.
-
provide scaffolding - provide scaffolding to develop expertise and then slowly remove it for independence a bit like stabilisers on a bike to build confidence.
-
multi-sensory - to connect as many pathways in the brain as possible.
-
independent practice - a regular routine to support independent learning and build confidence.

Each session will follow a similar format which incorporates ICT and games along with different activities to support the learning in the classroom:
